The acclaimed Imani Winds and Catalyst Quartet present a bold combination of chamber music for winds and strings with (im)migration: music of change, highlighting the experience of migration. Known for their dynamic performances and innovative repertoire, Grammy-nominated Imani Winds leads a revolution of the wind quintet, while Catalyst Quartet features alumni from the internationally-acclaimed Sphinx Organization.

Imani Winds performs an arrangement by Jeff Scott of Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango, while the Catalyst Quartet performs the final movement Saltando como um Saci/Allegro from Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos’ String Quartet no. 1. The ensembles join together for a movement titled Lay Dis Body Down from the new work Sergeant McCauley, composed by violinist Jessie Montgomery.

This youth-friendly program features Imani Winds and Catalyst Quartet performing individually and together with demonstrations of the string and wind instruments. The performance was filmed on November 12, 2020 at the DiMenna Center in New York City and originally broadcast live by the Moss Arts Center.
