The acclaimed Imani Winds and Catalyst Quartet present a bold combination of chamber music for winds and strings with (Im)migration: Music of Change. Known for their dynamic performances and innovative repertoire, the award-winning Imani Winds and the Sphinx Competition laureates of the Catalyst Quartet join together for a compelling program by Latinx and African American composers. Catalyst violinist and composer Jessie Montgomery presents a new work inspired by the Great Migration as seen through the lens of her great-grandfather, along with genre-spanning works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Roberto Sierra and Mongo Santa Maria.
Jessie Montgomery will be in residence at the UW as a Mellon Creative Research Fellow.
Dazzling ensemble playing...the whole is vastly more than the sum of its parts.
