ABOUT THE PROJECT

During her residency, Naveen worked on The Factory (working title), a brand new play about the garments industry, which takes place in the United States and Bangladesh. The central characters are Aziza, a Bangladeshi American fashion designer in New York, and Bua, a woman who has worked for Aziza’s family for decades as a domestic worker in Dhaka and is considered an adopted member of the family. When Aziza discovers that Bua is now working in a garments factory in Dhaka that produces clothing for the same company in New York for which Aziza works, both characters must confront questions about the meaning and value of their work.
