Meet the 25–26 Student Apprentice Advisory Board Members

June 22, 2026

Melanie Nguyen, Lily Gebs and Elene Liu — three talented people and University of Washington students — joined Meany Center’s Advisory Board for the 2025–26 Season as student apprentice members. They each bring new perspectives, UW student representation and passion for the performing arts to their role on the Board.

Melanie Nguyen is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at The UW in International Studies, with minors in Japanese and English. She also works at The Daily, as an Arts & Culture Writer/Columnist at the UW. One of her goals is to help Meany Center to be a welcoming and resonant space for students.

Elene Liu is studying Ethnomusicology and received a Bachelor of Arts this year. She has been recognized on the Dean’s List for her accomplishments in Linguistics. She supported many events at Meany Center this season, including the annual Center Stage Gala.

Lily Gebs is an usher at Meany Hall. She’s been welcoming our community since 2025 and will continue next year. She shared she is so impressed with the artistic performances at Meany that are available right here on campus. Lily says, “The first Meany Center event I attended was the operatic work Music for New Bodies, directed by Peter Sellars. I was blown away by the amazing singing, as well as the lyrics and story that were so of the moment. I was also very impressed that the West Coast premiere of such a cool work of art was performed on campus and so accessible for students!”

Melanie, Lily and Elene are making important community connections. Be sure to say hello to them at upcoming meany Center events as they work at Meany performances and out in the community at campus events, helping to welcome new audiences of all ages to Meany Center.
