Altar No. 3: I Choose to Remember Us Whole — Community Processional

May 20

Performance Dates

  • Sat May 20 2023 11:30 AM

Henry Art Gallery & UW Campus

You are invited to bring your whole fabulous self to the UW campus beginning at 11:30 a.m. on May 20 to participate in an interactive processional through five altars created by Seattle-based collaborators, in response to the core theme of Daniel Alexander Jones’s project, Altar No. 3: I Choose To Remember Us Whole:

What would it feel like to remember and to be remembered as whole beings? What would change? What would enable wholeness? And what can we do to embrace as whole what now seems irrevocably torn asunder?

The processional experience will begin and end at the Henry Art Gallery, the site of Jones’s current installation of the same name.

Processional Timeline and Map of Processional Route and Altar Locations

This contemplative journey through space will be led by UW Department of Dance faculty Juliet McMains and Diana Garcia-Snyder, students and community activators, and will assemble at 11:30 a.m. to procede to the site of the first on-campus altar, arriving at approximately 12 p.m.

The full route is about 2.5 miles long and is expected to take approximately 2.5 hours to walk. We will conclude with a celebration in front of the Henry at approximately 2:30 p.m. You are encouraged to join the entire processional but it is also possible to join along the way. We invite you to wear shades of gold, red, orange and yellow — inspired by the sun.11:30 a.m. Welcome with Daniel Alexander Jones & Walter Kitnudu
